Martin Luther was not a humanist in the traditional sense of the term. While he shared some humanist ideals, such as the emphasis on individual interpretation of scripture and the rejection of certain aspects of medieval scholasticism, he also had significant differences with humanist thinkers of his time. Luther's primary focus was on religious reform and the authority of scripture, rather than the broader focus on classical learning and secular humanism that characterized the humanist movement.
